Ahead of Season 3 of The Witcher confirmed that a fourth season is in production. However, it will not star Henry Cavill. The actor stated on Instagram that after three seasons of playing Geralt of Rivia, he would retire the character and hand over the Witcher mantle to someone else. In Season 4, Liam Hemsworth will play the White Wolf instead of Henry Cavill, giving the streaming service a fresh perspective on the role.
For all of Netflix’s The Witcher fans, Henry Cavill has served as the rock of consistency and the most passionate member of the cast and crew. He was the first to advocate vigorously for himself to get the part, and his persistence paid off. Cavill is well-regarded by fans since he is a huge lover of novels and games. One of his co-stars, Freya Allan, once called him a “Witcher encyclopedia.” It’s a shame his time as Geralt of Rivia has come close.
It’s official: The Witcher is returning for Season 4, and Henry Cavill will be handing his swords to Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia after Season 3. Welcome to the Witcher family, @LiamHemsworth!

The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill, has been extended for a fourth season on Netflix, with The Hunger Games Liam Hemsworth slated to take over the role of Geralt of Rivia. Social media users and Cavill’s supporters who think he perfectly embodied and acted the role are upset by choice. Cavill’s tenure in character spans the show’s first three critically acclaimed seasons. This news precedes the summer 2023 premiere of “The Witcher” season 3.
The Witcher Star Cast Comments on the Action are as
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4, In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.”
Cavill said.
“Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into ‘The Witcher’ world.”
Hemsworth said
After three seasons on the program, which shoots internationally and has a tough production schedule, insiders say that Cavill decided it was time to move on since he had only signed a short-term contract. In addition to the Superman reboot, he has several other films, and television projects in the works, including the recently announced The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Some of Cavill’s co-stars on “The Witcher” reportedly renegotiated their salaries for Season 4.
Although Cavill did not explain leaving the part, the announcement that he would reprise his role as Superman in a solo Warner Bros. picture came simultaneously with the casting change. After the credits rolled on “Black Adam,” Henry Cavill appeared as Superman and promised future sequels.
Throughout his time portraying Geralt, Cavill proved himself to be the ideal actor to fill the role, largely thanks to his familiarity with video games like The Witcher. Because of his work, the show has been a critical and commercial hit for Netflix. His retirement comes soon after it was announced that he would reprise his role as Superman in future DCEU films, a commitment that would have kept him busy for the foreseeable future.
