If there is one absolute truth in the current tech landscape, it is that AI compute is the ultimate currency. Every startup, giant enterprise, and ambitious newcomer is scrambling for hardware, and infrastructure providers are reaping the rewards at a scale we have rarely seen before.
The Rush for $3.5 Billion in Pre-IPO Financing
Enter Nscale, a British AI infrastructure company that has only been around for two years. Despite its relative youth, the firm is moving at breakneck speed and reportedly looking to raise an eye-watering $3.5 billion in pre-IPO financing as it eyes a public debut.
According to recent reports, the financial strategy is divided into two major fronts:
- Selling $1.5 billion in convertible notes—loans that can seamlessly convert into company stock—to a targeted group of investors.
- Securing an additional $2 billion in direct financing from hardware heavyweight Nvidia.
Riding the Wave of Mega-Deals and Nvidia Backing
This isn’t Nvidia’s first rodeo with the British infrastructure provider. Nvidia previously participated in Nscale’s massive $1.1 billion Series B funding round back in March, which the startup proudly touted as the largest Series B in European history. Before that, Nscale closed a $155 million Series A in late 2024.
The appetite for Nscale’s offerings has skyrocketed following a staggering $45 billion deal signed with Anthropic. Thanks to this massive contract and others, Nscale has reportedly been floating projected contracted revenues of over $100 billion to prospective investors.
What This Means for the Upcoming Public Debut
With an IPO potentially arriving as early as this month, Nscale is positioning itself as a titan of next-generation AI infrastructure. Whether these astronomical revenue projections and heavy investments will translate into lasting public market success remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the race for AI compute dominance is officially hitting the public markets.
